The restoration of Borj Saadioune centers on the preservation of its original rammed earth structures and its historic brick vaults, allowing the Saadien-era mass to remain the primary protagonist. The intervention introduces the "present" through a subtle architectural twist, utilizing new brickwork to ensure that modern cultural functions, such as exposition rooms and event spaces, feel like an organic extension of the fortress’s heritage.
The project’s spatial experience culminates in a panoramic café facing the Atlantic, while the accessible rooftop terrace is designed to frame the confluence of the ocean and Oued Loukkos. By contrasting the massive rammed earth walls with the rhythmic texture of the brick vaults, the design transforms the bastion into a living landmark that bridges ancient materiality with contemporary public life.
